Regarding the OG question, the amount of people arming themselves in recent years terrifies me. Praying that it doesn't happen, but I feel like it is far more likely for a mistaken self inflicted tragedy than an armed person saving anyone from a pogrom.

I'm not against citizens arming themselves, provided they are trained and keep it secure. Sadly, there seems to be a hotheaded carefree attitude growing within the community that scares me. For instance, if you're gonna be armed in shul, are you also going to refrain from saying Lechaim?

Agree. A strict no alcohol must be enforced by shul leadership for anyone carrying.

Where did you get anyone was limiting G-d's ability to do anything. G-d sets all rules.

While there might be free will on the evil side, it's still in God's hands and ability to let it happen or to interfere. Otherwise there is no place to pray to be saved from evil, it's all up to us to prevent it. Of course that's not the case as we see many times in the Bible God was the one interfering and preventing even from evil.

What pushes you to that belief is the question if God was able to save them, why didn't he? That question is entirely senseless as we have no capability of understanding God's ways. In fact, A God who's action is always understood by humans is no God. Asking why it happens is like a child who asks why that surgeon is cutting flesh open or amputating a leg.

We believe different things. This all goes back to our free will discussion. We have different beliefs about free will and that was my only point. Not that one was right or one was wrong.

I am not understanding.
Free will as I understand makes more sense to me. That doesn't mean it answers all questions. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just follow what you believe. That is the best any of us can do.

My answer doesn't really fit any of the voting options: I will buy a gun if/when Daas Torah says it's the right thing to do. I'm assuming that if things get worse, people will start asking rabbonim, and I'll hear about it.

A kapparah with our rights. Our founding fathers were the smartest people during their time but they weren't Chazal (Lehavdil). They did not have the ability to foresee evolving cultural and situational changes which will happen to our country two centuries later. So when one argues that gun rights today does more harm than good, the counter argument shouldn't be "but the second amendment". If one believe that broad gun rights is still beneficial today then go ahead and make your case, I don't care how important it was for the farmer in Kentucky in 1780.
