My guess is that the consensus is much more than it appears, but political punditry being the way it is, people are pitted against each other and divided into competing teams even when we mostly agree.

My answer doesn't really fit any of the voting options: I will buy a gun if/when Daas Torah says it's the right thing to do. I'm assuming that if things get worse, people will start asking rabbonim, and I'll hear about it.

Regarding our neighborhood of Y-m, RYBs said no when asked in public.
When asked in private, he said it's too much hishtadlus for people like us in this place. Then he said something along the lines of, "Lamdanim shouldn't have guns."

I can’t have the responsibility of properly storing a firearm in my home. It’s too dangerous with my children around. Too many stories. Perhaps if things were worse closer to home I’d consider it temporarily, but the process of getting one is long.

Gonna stick with my pepper spray . Also been wondering about the effectiveness of a taser. These are useless against a mob of people though.

That's funny. Rabbi Berkovits once commented that when he is asked a question with two tzdadim and doesn't see the difference between them, he advises the person to do the one that the person obviously doesn't want to do, reasoning that this choice is the one the Yetzer Hora is fighting against.

It sounds funny but it isn't an answer, and frames frum gun owners as untrustworthy to own a gun. From anecdotal experience, and from the overwhelming amount of frum Jews getting a gun now, this is not the reality. And it's not the nutty guys buying guns now, most of them already had them.
