Added voting option.

The poll question is "Are You Thinking Of Buying A Gun Due To Current Events?" but there is no option for "Yes, I am thinking about buying a gun".

This should be mandatory in all states.
Agreed. But I've heard from many people who decided that they needed to get something right away who were disappointed that it was going to take them at least a couple months to get approved. So just putting out that fair warning to everyone.
And then of course if you want a concealed carry permit, that can also add more time on top of the other stuff.

If you're not doing anything but are thinking, I'd say that goes under "Not now, but might buy a gun if things get worse closer to home"

Might get lucky and scare them off, but probably ends badly.
Although, if you speak to some in our community they dream of having an armed Shomrim (read: militia). I guess that would be helpful against a mob.

Not really. I'm thinking about it. I was on my states website on Friday to learn about the process.

It’s too dangerous with my children around. Too many stories.

In a similar situation and looking at options for a safe that can address this concern.

Another option that I am considering (assuming there are no legal issues) is keeping it stored at a relative who has guns and who I trust.

Perhaps  I am being naive, but I am not (yet) scared that I'll be in a situation where I'll need on a moments notice. But I don't want to push off buying it until things get to that point, since;
1 - I want to be able to practice with it now.
2 - If ח"ו it gets to that point, I don't want to rely on being able to get to a store that will sell me a gun.

More than 50% of firearm deaths in the US are from suicide.
More than 50% of suicides in the US involve a gun.
The frum community is sadly, not immune to this.

Safety from kids is obviously a huge issue, but do those numbers affect whether you will become a gunowner?

I was and still am worried about the balance between safety and security. I don't want it to be very inaccessible if I need to use it at a moments notice neither do I want it accessible very easily.

Currently I keep the guns locked in a hardshell case with the bult in key lock. The ammo separate and locked. There are only adults in my household so I think that is safe enough. I also think it's safe enough if my nieces and nephews come over.

Im debating whether to keep the magazines of my pistol loaded. I'm still not sure.

If I had children in the house I would definitely put a motion detection camera where the gun is kept. I would also put a note inside the case saying not to play with it if I'm not there and I can show it to you if you want to see/hold it.

Major legal issues there.
Theres plenty of good safe options. Point is to keep away from adults as well no kid can get in.

If chas vshalom u ever need it loading the magazines takes precious seconds.
Better to leave loaded magazines in separate compartment.

This is another thing that crosses my mind.
And angry impulsive reactions.

That is why I tried to limit the amount of people that know about it in my house. But by now basically everyone in my family knows. Simply due to my wanting to show off. I kept it a secret for a year or two but eventually I caved in and told a few people and the word spread.

Depends on state but NJ for example it’s definitely worth applying for FID (permit) and then u can always walk into a store and buy any long gun (have to wait for NICS tho 2-5 days)
Instead of if ch”v when u need it waiting a few weeks for permits.

Gone are the days you would sleep with the doors wide open since you have no AC.
Guns were displayed openly and not locked away.
You could bring a gun (unloaded) to school for show and tell.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

True. I'm debating whether to leave it in the gun case loaded but not in the gun itself.

If you're watching what went down in Dagestan today and think that cant happen right here in the good ole US of A you're dreaming. I applied for my rifle and CC last week for NYC. Already have upstate.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

If I want to get one, I would ask me Rebbi. But I already know what his answer would be.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
