Over Shabbos, the streets of Y-m were full of massive signs featuring the face of the Chazon Ish, Zecher tzaddik v'kadosh l'vracha, and some excerpt of his stating that a Jew should never carry a gun.
Of course, this disregards the fact that the Chazon Ish was not consulted regarding these times, and therefore, no one can know what he would have held.

I don't think guns is the answer here, but unfortunately, history has taught us that the mainstreaming of ridiculous-to-anyone-objective rhetoric leads to a society where the atrocities that Hamas perpetrated can happen. Listen to the mainstream at most colleges and it is the same hate and ridiculousness spewed in Gaza which leads almost every civilian to cheer, kick and spit at Israeli bodies dragged through the streets of Gaza.
