strange aa routing rule?
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:35:12 AM »
i just tried booking the following with aa:
tlv-amm rj coach
amm-auh rj coach
auh-mel ey first

instead of charging me 60k for a one way first class middle east-south pacific award, the computer automatically split it up at auh so it would be one way coach me-me for 17.5k + ow fc me-sp for 60k for a total of 77.5k.
i told her that i think its splitting it up since the first part is coach and second part first, so she should look at the whole thing as a first award with a voluntary downgrade for a total of 60k
she came back to me that it needs to be split up since etihad doesnt support a routing of tlv-mel?!
this was confirmed by her supervisor

i put it on hold for the interim, but do i have a chance?

Nope.
The annoying thing about Etihad.

Mentioned a similar thing a couple days ago
This is really interesting.
Being that EY doesn't publish a routing from the US to MLE, it prices as two awards JFK-AUH and AUH-MLE

hold on, why does it split in auh? it should split in amm since ey does route from amm-mel
then i could remove the tlv-amm portion and book it for a measly 4500 avios assuming there arent crazy fuel surchardge, and that once aa releases them, ba would be able to book it

So book AMM-MEL with AA and use LAN for TLV-AMM.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Its not necessarily where they fly (EY flies JFK-AUH-MLE), it has to do with the published routing s.
so you may run into the same problem AMM-AUH-MEL...

If you do it, please post back. Interested to know.

No, but you can book open jaw and book any zone 1 flight.
In this case TLV-AMM is zone 1 already though of course.

Why not book with BA?
Fuel surcharges shouldn't be too bad.

Yup, you could.  Just don't know the YQ off-hand.

I haven't crunched the numbers, but if you anyway need a NYC-YYZ flight or even a NYC-YYZ-NYC flight it may be worth using LAN still.
