Southwest Companion Pass.

What is it:

The SW CP is arguably the most valuable airline perk available today. It allows you to bring a companion with you for free on any Southwest flight, regardless of whether you are on a revenue or award ticket. All you pay are the government taxes on the ticket. The pass works for all Southwest flights, including international flights. The pass also works on Airtran flights that are sold on Southwest.com. Airtran flights that are not sold on Southwest.com are not eligible.
Like all other Southwest award bookings, the CP is not subject to any capacity controls, and as long as there is still a seat for sale on a particular flight, it is yours.
The pass is valid for the year it is earned in and the entire next calendar year. If you earned your CP in July 2014, your pass will be valid for the remainder of 2014 and the entirety of 2015.

How to get it:

The SW CP is obtained by earning 125,000 Southwest points in one calendar year. For example, if you earned 8k points by flying at the beginning of 2014, you need to earn another 117k points throughout the rest of 2014 in order to qualify for CP. Once 2015 rolls around, the points you've earned in 2014 no longer qualify for earning your CP, although they will still be redeemable points.

The primary method of accumulating Southwest points is CC signup bonuses. The Southwest CC frequently offers 50k point signup bonuses on all 4 flavors of Southwest cards and signup bonuses count towards earning the CP. Get approved for 2 of these cards, meet the 2k spending requirement on each and you are only 21k points away from the CP.

All points earned through the Rapid Rewards shopping mall also count towards SW CP eligibility.
Points transferred from Hyatt, Club Carlson, Marriott, and Wyndham all count towards CP status.
Points transferred from Ultimate Rewards do not count towards CP, although you can transfer can transfer 50K Ultimate Rewards points into 50K Hyatt and 50K Hyatt transfers into 30K Southwest.

Points earned by crediting hotel stays and car rentals to Southwest also count towards CP.

Using the CP:

Using your CP is very simple. Once you book a flight on Southwest, an "Add a companion" button will appear under your reservation. Just fill out the info and pay the taxes and you are done.
It is best to add your companion right when you book your own flight as there have been instances where people have forgotten to add their companion, the flight subsequently sold out and they were not able to add their companion. One thing to keep in mind is that online changes with a companion booked are not possible, you need to cancel the companion, wait 10-15 min, make the change and then add the companion again. You can make the necessary changes over the phone though.
You can change your companion up to 3 times during the life of your CP. (I believe you can change it 3 times per calendar year.)

I've been on flights where they've made people in business gate check their sheitel. Then again they were pretty obnoxious

If you book a seat using the companion pass why wouldn't you have a ticketed seat for the infant?
The companion pass will only get your companion a seat and your infant will be a literal lap child if there doesn't happen to be an empty seat next to you.
Although come to mind it would be nice if you could daisy chain companion passes. For instance your wife as your companion, baby as her companion etc. ;D

So if I wait, I'll be earning 110k across 2 ffn. Then I merge them and the companion pass should just appear? Is that what people do?

Bump? Anyone with experience or knowledge, with opening premier and plus both with blank ffn, generating separate rapid rewards accounts? But ultimately I need 110k into the same (1) account...

NOt sure, but if both cards are in your  name, it should work. Though if one card is for your wife and one is yours, not sure it would count, or merge.

Both in my name. Should I try and merge now or wait. I can think of pros and cons of both.

What is your thought process?

If I merge now, maybe I won't get the bonus twice because I'm trying to match 1 RR account with 2 cards before getting a bonus (this thought process is the reason I applied with a blank FFN and not my existing RR account from the summer where I already got a 50k premier bonus).

If I wait and 55k posts in 2 different accounts, I won't get the CP because they all have to be earned into the same account (if it posts in A and B, and then B becomes A, maybe I won't get the CP because I didn't technically earn all 110 in A).

I don't think that would be an issue. If someone has a different experience, please CMIIW.

It's better to get 2 bonuses and no CP than one bonus with no CP.
Go with the merge after they post, it should be fine.

I signed up a new card after signing up to a new SW FF account. Lets call that account A. Using account A in the correct field I was approved a few weeks ago for a SW consumer card.  I will hold on to spend the 2k until after Jan.
I currently have another SW CC (business) which I used to earn my current CP. I have that linked to a different SW FF account (Account B).
Now, I need to spend 60k from after Jan to earn the CP until the end of 2015. I want to be able to use my older SW business card (Account B which has a current CP on it) to help with hitting that massive threshold. Do you think it's a bad idea to change merge accounts A and B and have account B remain the main account. This way the account that has my CP will remain the same number, and my new CC will earn the bonus and further spending on Account B. This way both CC will help me earn on one account.

In simpler and shorter words, will my merging my new SW card and miles account into my old one jeopardize my earning the bonus and CP qualifying miles in any way?

I don't think so. But definitely merge after you get the bonus. No way to know for sure though as there are very few reports of SW merges here. Maybe ask on FT.

I would think the opposite. Merging before earning the bonus will allow the bonus points to be "earned" on the new account. Do you think they would block the bonus even though I'm already approved for the card? Plus if I merge after the bonus who says they will count the bonus as being earned towards the new account?
