Southwest Companion Pass.

What is it:

The SW CP is arguably the most valuable airline perk available today. It allows you to bring a companion with you for free on any Southwest flight, regardless of whether you are on a revenue or award ticket. All you pay are the government taxes on the ticket. The pass works for all Southwest flights, including international flights. The pass also works on Airtran flights that are sold on Southwest.com. Airtran flights that are not sold on Southwest.com are not eligible.
Like all other Southwest award bookings, the CP is not subject to any capacity controls, and as long as there is still a seat for sale on a particular flight, it is yours.
The pass is valid for the year it is earned in and the entire next calendar year. If you earned your CP in July 2014, your pass will be valid for the remainder of 2014 and the entirety of 2015.

How to get it:

The SW CP is obtained by earning 125,000 Southwest points in one calendar year. For example, if you earned 8k points by flying at the beginning of 2014, you need to earn another 117k points throughout the rest of 2014 in order to qualify for CP. Once 2015 rolls around, the points you've earned in 2014 no longer qualify for earning your CP, although they will still be redeemable points.

The primary method of accumulating Southwest points is CC signup bonuses. The Southwest CC frequently offers 50k point signup bonuses on all 4 flavors of Southwest cards and signup bonuses count towards earning the CP. Get approved for 2 of these cards, meet the 2k spending requirement on each and you are only 21k points away from the CP.

All points earned through the Rapid Rewards shopping mall also count towards SW CP eligibility.
Points transferred from Hyatt, Club Carlson, Marriott, and Wyndham all count towards CP status.
Points transferred from Ultimate Rewards do not count towards CP, although you can transfer can transfer 50K Ultimate Rewards points into 50K Hyatt and 50K Hyatt transfers into 30K Southwest.

Points earned by crediting hotel stays and car rentals to Southwest also count towards CP.

Using the CP:

Using your CP is very simple. Once you book a flight on Southwest, an "Add a companion" button will appear under your reservation. Just fill out the info and pay the taxes and you are done.
It is best to add your companion right when you book your own flight as there have been instances where people have forgotten to add their companion, the flight subsequently sold out and they were not able to add their companion. One thing to keep in mind is that online changes with a companion booked are not possible, you need to cancel the companion, wait 10-15 min, make the change and then add the companion again. You can make the necessary changes over the phone though.
You can change your companion up to 3 times during the life of your CP. (I believe you can change it 3 times per calendar year.)

1) I once got an email from SW telling me I have 2 accounts, I should merge them! So, no, merging is not an issue.
2) I'm not sure.
3) I doubt that's possible but zlt123 seems to have some sort of experience with it although I don't think he was very clear with what happened.
Yes, you can merge 2 accounts with the same person's name on them. I don't know if that will count towards CP.

Thank you! Well I called chase for a resolution (hopefully). I've never had either of these products, so I am truly am eligible for both bonuses I was fine explaining the situation. The card had already been sent out, but they said they'll send me a new card with my Account A FFN, so all earnings/bonuses will go into one account (of course I didn't say anything about the CP  ;)). Hopefully the rep was accurate!

I've read much more than 44 pages before in order to learn. If you want straight answers to every question you have and expect to be spoonfed, ask on DDFB - they're much friendlier.

That should be something this community aspire to be!

What good does that do:)

Read the thread or at least the wiki....and learn how to spell.

The wiki doesn't describe the answer to my Q....maybe you didnt get it so i will write it again...  can to different accounts merge to count as CP!? If I could spell i would. but thanks for pointing out my short comings. does that make you feel better?

Unfortunately, the wiki doesn't have the answer to my question. Maybe you didn't understand it - may I rephrase it? Can two different accounts be merged and be counted toward the CP?

I apologize for my previous misspellings. In future, I will spend a few extra moments to try make things clearer. I do appreciate you pointing out that I could have read the thread in more detail to find an answer to my question, however I do not have the time to do so. I will not end this off with a snarky retort which might irk the very people I'm asking to help me.

Thanks!

sorry if asked already i searched the feed didn't see it. I signed up for swa biz and personal cards, when I signed up they said specifically it does not count towards cp status if you use reloadables such as target red card. Is this true?

So.. I just got 109,787 southwest points credited to my account from CC's.

I want to cancel my PLUS to get the $69 AF refunded.

What should I do? Can I cancel now OR wait another month till the Companion Pass is official?

Any advise is appreciated.

Not sure. Sometimes some portals require the associated CC, but not always. Someone here can chime in with their experience. Don't fully recall...

'However, points earned from Rapid Rewards Shopping can take an additional 60-90 business days to be applied to your Rapid Rewards balance'

I think this is the right thread for this...
looking to top off for my SW CP; I transfered 10K UR to Hyatt. I would like to now transfer those to 4800 SW. those 10K are the only points in the Hyatt account.
problem is: the dropdown on Hyatt only lets me transfer up to 8,750.
Does hyatt not let you transfer out your last points? If I do 2 increments of 5K would that work better? or will I need to blow another 1K UR to make it work?
