One line summary:
Areivim USA is a dignified way to give צדקה. It is not Life Insurance and doesn't guarantee any sort of financial protection to its members. it is registered as a religious organization and as such isn't required to incur the additional cost of preparing and filing form 990 with the IRS.

I spoke to Areivim at length as I sell life insurance and wanted to best advise ppl that had Areivim already and wanted to supplement it with LI.
I was told that it has never happened that Areivim declined to pay out based on someones assets or LI. It has happened that the family told them they don't need the money, but they never told the family no.
Simple reasoning is, they also think that 100K per yasom doesn't really cover it, the program just won't allow for a higher payout at $28/ monthly. So they encourage everyone to have LI as well to make sure kids are adequetly covered, and owning LI does not disqualify a payout [unless each kid will receive over a million dollars etc].

December - 6‬
January - 8‬
February - 7‬

March - 7

What does this even mean? A family of 10 would get the same amount as a family of 3, but the (multiples of?) $150k is split more ways?

No, Areivim promises that a family of 10 should each be covered for $150k over the span of 3 months, with Arevim paying out for 4 orphans per months. The issue is if other people are niftar during those same months there wouldn’t be enough funds for everyone to receive $150k.

In reality, there have been 7+ orphans per month (on average) when their fund is only designed to  afford up to 4 orphans at $150k per month totaling $600k. The only way Areivim can still be around is if they’re splitting the $600k between the 7+ orphans that are eligible each month, receiving about $83k each.

I don’t think that’s happening though, yet they are still around.

What are we missing? Donations make up that deficit?

What happens if there are more than the required number of members in the group?
The amount contributed by each member will then be lowered accordingly, but the amount collected on behalf of the family will remain the same.

FWIU, the current group is well above 15000, so the $42/month really covers more than 4 orphans.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Question: what happens when a person is nifter R"L, Areivim collects the money from its members, and later decides that the family is not qualified to receive the money.
does areivim return the money to all credit cards charged???? do they get to keep the money???  does areivim ask its members, "should we give the money to the family anyway"?
After all who would mind giving $7 for a orphan ???

Earlier this morning I emailed Areivim about group size and how much they are actually contributing, they just replied:

"We now have close to 25,000 members and can fund many more orphans per month."

Based on this - they are collecting close to $1.05m per month and can fund ~7 orphans.

I'm sure its always fluctuating, and I would expect churn right after they announce the collection for the next month.

It means needing to look up the exact number when the person asking the question probably doesn't even care for it to be more than a rough number.

I don't understand the question. Have you never gotten charged from Areivim? They only collect for 4 Yesomim/Almanas a month, if there are more R"L it gets rolled over to the next month. Nebech since COVID, I don't think there was a month without a collection, L"A.

As per their email to me today, they are collecting for closer to 7 orphans per month now.

It’s pretty self explanatory. They average 7 orphans a month and have a group size that can afford almost that amount. Add in a few percent for overhead and they’re likely giving 95% of 150k.
