That's a very simplistic way to put it, factor into that where you stand when you list the members by "date joined"

Agreed. I don't think people actually "care about post count" as much as one might think. I think a lot of high-posters (including myself) enjoy the conversational aspect of DDF (not just in JS). Having many conversations in the TR board will inflate a post count significantly.

The avarage doesn't take into account that there's one day a week that most members don't post plus a few more days for Yomim Tovim.

Yes true. Couple of years was out of town Yeshiva, and didn't do much posting there. Joined about 5 years ago.
