GG joined that union in October after many years of resistance. I can only postulate it was to have powerful backers to get ahead of Bingo's opening.
The protests are a terrible look for GG - protestors handing out flyers saying "come to us, we take care of our employees, dont go to Bingo, all they have is cheap prices!". I am rooting for their downfall. Evil people taking advantage of a community for far too long.
ETA the flyer:
Jumping in here from EY...
GG is being REALLY stupid. Bingo's owners are wealthy, they own a large chain in EY. It's like messing around with Walmart. They can lower the prices really low long enough to drive GG out of business.
On another note, for all the discussion about Bingos pricing, this is basically the Osher AD business model.
You know that you are getting a FAIR price. They may not be cheapest on any single item, especially if a competitor is running a sale.
They are not interested in serving you for a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread in the morning. They want to be your go to place for large purchases. (As a manager told me: Why should I have an express lane for people buying only a few stuff? Id rather serve shoppers who are spending $$$).
They use the morning hours to stock shelves. (so that they do it quicker, so need fewer workers)
Also I have a hunch that one of the reasons they opened the US stores was for currency conversion purposes (so that the profits from the US stores are used to pay US suppliers for all the stores and the IL stores pay the IL suppliers and they just ship within their own network trans atlantic)
