They should just focus on being the "premium high end" store in the hood and focus on the 1/3 of the community that couldn't care less about their grocery bill. There are enough of them in the 5T. But they will take a massive hit community wide.

I was thinking about it and I think they already consider themselves high end. which is a problem for people who don't want high end.

That was quick. I wonder if the other supermarkets in town had anything to do with it.
Either way, are the workers in Brooklyn or Monsey Bingo union? If not, I don't see the owners ever giving in here.

Who sent those union protesters to picket today?

None of those people ever worked for Bingo. (That's what a Bingo worker told me. It is also obvious)

Who told them today was opening day?

Did someone local pay them to come?!?

Welcome to the union, one of the many legalized mafias in our country. Kinda ironic that they're protesting outside of a store known for using strong-arm tactics to get what they want, as well.

GG joined that union in October after many years of resistance. I can only postulate it was to have powerful backers to get ahead of Bingo's opening.
The protests are a terrible look for GG - protestors handing out flyers saying "come to us, we take care of our employees, dont go to Bingo, all they have is cheap prices!". I am rooting for their downfall. Evil people taking advantage of a community for far too long.

Jumping in here from EY...

GG is being REALLY stupid. Bingo's owners are wealthy, they own a large chain in EY. It's like messing around with Walmart. They can lower the prices really low long enough to drive GG out of business.

On another note, for all the discussion about Bingos pricing, this is basically the Osher AD business model.
You know that you are getting a FAIR price. They may not be cheapest on any single item, especially if a competitor is running a sale.
They are not interested in serving you for a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread in the morning. They want to be your go to place for large purchases. (As a manager told me: Why should I have an express lane for people buying only a few stuff? Id rather serve shoppers who are spending $$$).
They use the morning hours to stock shelves. (so that they do it quicker, so need fewer workers)
Also I have a hunch that one of the reasons they opened the US stores was for currency conversion purposes (so that the profits from the US stores are used to pay US suppliers for all the stores and the IL stores pay the IL suppliers and they just ship within their own network trans atlantic)

Once heard this unverified story, bingo approaches Kedem, we want to get Costco pricing, Kedem says if you take costco volume you get costco pricing, Bingo says no problem go ahead, and ships off a few container loads to Osher ad in Israel...

Sounds fair- that is their business model after all, using their leverage in both countries.

Heard the story a little differently. Bingo wanted certain heavy discounts. Kayco said we don't give those prices to anyone. Bingo said if they don't get those prices, they'll take all Kayco products off the shelves in Osher Ad. Osher Ad is the biggest Kayco retailer in IL. Kayco called their bluff, and Bingo/Osher Ad followed through. 2 weeks later they got the prices they asked for.
