Heard the story a little differently. Bingo wanted certain heavy discounts. Kayco said we don't give those prices to anyone. Bingo said if they don't get those prices, they'll take all Kayco products off the shelves in Osher Ad. Osher Ad is the biggest Kayco retailer in IL. Kayco called their bluff, and Bingo/Osher Ad followed through. 2 weeks later they got the prices they asked for.

Bingo Trip Report.

Walking around Bingo last night for the first time, I was struck by how happy people seemed to be there. It felt like a giant family reunion with people meeting their friends all over the place. Never experienced that in a supermarket. The sheer number of people there was staggering. Despite that, it didn't feel very crowded (cant say the same about the parking lot though). I think that's partially due to the design of the store. The large aisles, high ceilings, and especially the low freezer/fridges make the place feel very spacious. Even though it was 9pm on a Thursday night, there was zero waiting in line to leave. I interacted with a few employees and all were friendly and helpful. Some of the prices were mind-blowing (Snapple for $1.39?!), others felt on par with other stores. Plenty of stock of everything and there were many people restocking low stock items. I've heard people say that its hard to do a full shopping there due to limited amount of brands - I only had 1 item out of a 40+ item shopping list that I could not buy (they were out of one specific flavor of yogurt and I didnt want to wait for them to restock it). Since its new, there's a lot of meandering around by people who cant find what they're looking for, but I'd imagine that would improve over time. I didn't use the self checkout scanners so can't comment on those. The bakery section is HUGE - so far I had the excellent chocolate babka and decent cinnamon rugelach. The chulent was ok, nothing special.

They really did a phenomenal job. Not looking to disparage GG again, but based on how many people I saw and the experience I had, the immediate and long-term impact on them will be tremendous even if they do come down on pricing.

One of the greatest inventions in a supermarket, checkout takes seconds.

similar experience. meat department was crowded and a little unorganized (domestic and imported meat all mixed together) but i'm sure that will improve. only prepared thing we tried was tuna and it was very good (8.99/pound)

Similar experience.

The self check out takes seconds. It's just amazing!!

I live nearby, and when I need to just "run in", it was a much quicker experience than anywhere else in town. Not everything is set up yet. They are still getting a few things together. (I noticed they do not carry a few items the other Bingo's always have. Apparently, they just didn't get it in yet.)

The Deli was not all ready since they just had inspection Thursday and did not have time to get everything ready properly.

Deli is Mechy's. Bakery is Sterns.

Bakery prices are very low. Also, the ice-cream birthday case (Sprinkles etc) are not even close to GG prices. MUCH less.  Bingo also  has a a higher line of frozen cakes and the like which which is more expensive too. On Israeli product like Doritos and the like, Bingo prices are extremely low.

It's a very pleasent place to shop. Parking in the back seems easier at many times.

Yes the meat dept was a mad house, and had a confusing layout - the chicken is across from the poultry sign instead of underneath it; the dips are both across from and next to the deli, etc - way too much going on over there. That was the one area that was difficult to navigate.

I just stopped in Kol Save a few minutes ago (to get that one missing yogurt) - I am there at a similar time every Friday, and I am not exaggerating when I say that there was 25% as many people as usual.

As a side note: The poultry Bingo sells is Mesorah farms which is owned and operated by KJ Poultry. This is the exact same product which Seasons sells. Seasons only uses this brand because they like their quality. A few months ago, the manager of the meat department at Seasons "joked" with me how the exact same product is almost half the price in Bingo. Now the joke's on him! He wont get away ripping us off anymore.

so I saw this ad again in the paper this week and I actually took a second to think about it. What do you think the meaning of this ad is saying?

Some that I asked explained simply that “it doesn’t matter you USED TO shop, now you’ll shop for less (bc you’ll be shopping at bingo)

Now MY interpretation is different,  bc it doesn’t SAY “doesn’t matter where you used to shop” it says, “it doesn’t matter where you shop (currently, and continuously), bc now you’ll shop for less.
Meaning, bingo will force everyone else to lower their prices, so no matter where you go you’ll be shopping for less thanks to bingo :D

Dont think so deeply, Its prob the same ad agency they use for copy writing in IL and just poorly translated  ;D

Not sure how KolSave remains profitable with Bingo so close now.

Maybe they should start doing deliveries? Or would they feel it would be in direct competition with themselves because that's one major advantage of GG?

They sent out today-only Flash Sales, I don't think I've ever seen them do that before.

I was in Bingo as well today, and there are plenty of things that are similarly priced to Kolsave. if kolsave has a drop better quality meat and chicken and runs sales close to bingo then they will still get a steady customer and now people will go to bingo then kolsave to fill in and then GG if necessary for anything else. Bingo will drive everyone down, including amazing savings,  in price on certain items.
