Let me start off by saying "to each their own, I don't tell people how to spend their money"

Reading the PSA don't swipe recklessly thread has me thinking that nothing is free, the free vacations aren't free if you factor in cost of acquisition of those miles.

I just don't understand how we became such a luxury driven nation.. I see young couples visiting Miami driving Cadillac escalades, eating at top restaurants and staying at top hotels, you'd estimate such a vacation in real costs can be $5000.

Yes bh there are quite a lot of truly wealthy people .. but I find it hard to believe 5% of those spending it, can really afford it .

Maybe im wrong,  I just got a new lease which was literally the best deal on the market and absolutely needed, then my insurance premiums went up .. I can't conceive how a young family can afford an $700 lease with $500+ insurance

That's almost $15,000 a year, are frum couples clearing over $150k a year post tax ?

Such a person's rent could easily hit $3000 a month

Between car and house that's a 3rd of your income not counting fancy vacations, luxury clothing and Lord knows what they eat when they aren't traveling.

By cost of acquisition, I mean if you are writing off packages etc your miles aren't free, the flights and hotels cost money .

Many cards have value that offsets the AF, but those free nights and miles stock cost money. The $400 value you get on an IHG annual night was a $100 AF, I'm certain many have over $2500 in annual fees

You lease a car and live in a high cost of living region with sky high insurance premiums and are kvetching about others living a luxurious life?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I took the cheapest lease that was literally what my friend said was the best deal he's seen in years.

I can afford it and absolutely need it .

I don't see your equation?

I grew up in Miami and pay less rent than anyone I know. But given that I serve the market, it has absolutely no effect on me.

I can't tell if you are trolling me. I was pointing out people's lifestyle's that cannot reflect an income reality and an idea that flights and hotels are free if paid for with points .

I highly doubt the average big redeemer is hitting chase 5x ink gc churn and is either spending on 0% apr or bg spend which has much risk and losses as was being discussed in the other thread

I'm sorry, I sell wine for a living. Wine dinners are part of my business. I don't ever eat out beyond business related stuff fwiw

I know many bh who can afford such lifestyles and vacations, I have no issues with people splurging what they can afford.

I just cannot fathom so many young married people being able to afford such a lifestyle...

OP wasn't judging, was just stating facts(or opinion), the next step would be judging, which wasn't done. what's wrong with kvetching?

As a financial coach, I meet with many who can’t afford such lifestyle and vacations. Keeping up with cohens leads many to go broke.

I didn't bash anyone. I know many wealthy yidden who give tens of millions to tzedaka and if they splurge, that's fine..

I certainly don't judge how people who can afford it spend their money.

I was specifically talking about a lifestyle that is carried out by false economics.

The idea that a vacation that was paid for with points earned via BG would be free , is false...

Similarly I cannot understand how many can afford eating out more than 5 times a year

Funny reading this thread when a friend reached out to me today to help him apply for 0% apr cards so he can recover from marrying off a child and space out some payments

Someone once told me he always takes a luxury vacation when marrying off a child because he's a בעל חוב anyways
We have been unburdened by what has been.
