Ahem. 3.5x1.5++.
It's about the hustle and being educated to know what the options are. If the hustle is not worth your time, then it's not worth your time. Everyone has to evaluate that tradeoff for themselves.

It’s definitely a common problem in this game to become totally obsessed where the end no longer justifies the means. For me personally it has evolved over the years. As my family and obligations grew KAH, certain things stopped making sense. This is something one needs to constantly evaluate and see if it’s worth the trade off. There is almost always something being given up to pursue this, even something as simple as spending family time together. Just my 2 cents.

I recently switched to a single 2% CC for all personal spending (especially for DW).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

A shame you couldn't get the Freedom unlimited double points.

Discover Miles It is 3% unlimited in year 1 (1.5% + match).  But that's for MS not personal spend.

1. For some people travel isn't all there is to life.
2. The ++ have their -- strings attached.
3. Shutdown/Blacklisted by Chase is a fact of life for many.
4. 2% instant CB everywhere and 3% instant CB on PayPal checkout (and PayPal giving fund) is good and simple for personal spending (AA Exec Plat doesn't come through personal spending - nor does anything significant for the ++ value).

I get the thrill of finding rare award space and getting the feeling that you got 10cpp value out of your points. But if you are filthy rich with points, why not just book using those point at 1.5cpp (or even, gasp, 1cpp) that 20k shower suite on your trip to some distant place, not caring about fuel surcharges, rare space needed for more than 1, etc.?

PayPal (by Synchrony bank). CB available as soon as charge posts. Also simplifies tax time when all those contributions of varying size are consolidated into just PayPal giving fund.

I don't see how that's competitive with the CFU offer aside from point 3.

if you are exec platinum because of business spending or ms when you could just get 2 percent back for business spending  I don't understand your point. You should be consistent-either always do 2 percent back or not at all

I'm still scarred from the protests last time I did a seminar in CH. :P

But I have done seminars since you joined. They were just a lot more expensive than the $18 they used to be. ;D

Yup. Compromising standards by going to a Pesach program or getting into Halachic shaalos just for the experience of spending time with Harper (that wasn't even advertised, might have been a game changer), is way too much of an expense. :P

You should consider small events (up to 20-25 people at a time, similar knowledge level).

+100 and it can be exclusive and invite only so the issues from other seminars won’t happen with this.

I would agree with you only to a point. Everybody is different and everybody has different reasons for wanting points. For me, I have a daughter that will be going to seminary next year IYH and I would like to be able to visit her without the stress of needing to pay for it. So collecting points that I don't necessarily need to use right away is fine by me, because I know I will need them soon. But if I need to do Amazon returns anyways, I can time it so I'm going to Staples when they're having their promotions and getting more bang for my buck with buying gift cards.

With carrying only two or three cards in your wallet, you can really maximize things knowing which card to use in which scenario. I'm planning on buying tickets for Disney, and if I can save 5% just by buying Disney gift cards from Target, that is easy money in my pocket just by being smart about which card I'm using to buy the tickets with. (I recognize the irony of buying Disneyland tickets in this thread)
Just be careful what you buy  ;)

Hard to scale or get ROI on such events. The entire point of large seminars is to attract new engagement (traffic that converts to clicks/applications) and to keep the DD brand strong, I can’t see how small events accomplish either of this.
