Chase Ultimate Rewards - Mileage Transfer?
« on: January 29, 2012, 12:56:54 PM »
Hi Everyone,

First thread here, hope I've picked the right forum - I've got a fair number of Chase Ultimate Rewards on my Chase Freedom credit card. I've noticed that you can book airfare through their site, but the "deals" don't seem to be great. Is there a way to turn those rewards into miles?

Thanks!
Shael

Open a sapphire preferred card and then you can transfer them to United, BA or Southwest.  Or transfer them to someone else's Sapphire Preferred and they can transfer them directly into one of your frequent flier accounts.

If my Dad, for example, had a Sapphire Preferred card, you're saying that I could transfer to him even though our accounts have no relationship to one another? And then he can go ahead and transfer to my FF account?

We asked if we could upgrade to a Preferred but they said there's a mandatory requirement for (1) year wait. I thought about applying out right however because I recently purchased a home and have a mortgage, I was rejected from the Sapphire card when my wife and I both applied at the end of 2011. Despite my credit being quite high, I'm assuming it's because I'm carrying the mortgage now.

Someone also mentioned selling points, what are members thoughts on that?

Asher - what about Continental?

Yes, you could transfer to your fathers account instantly and he can transfer them to your ff account. Instantly.

Bummer, just confirmed he does not have a Preferred account. What are your thoughts, otherwise, in terms of freeing my rewards?

You should try calling recon, if it hasn't been 30 days yet. Tell them about your good score and income etc, and you might be able to get it approved.

I'll I'm saying is that many people who get 'rejected' from Chase get approved via recon. Either way, as others have stated you can transfer yo anyone's SP account).

Really appreciate the advice, wish I knew back then that I could call for Recon (really new to this). Now to find someone who has an SP account who can help me out! What would appropriate next steps be if I wanted to get SP myself? Can I already apply again, potentially get rejected, and then call Recon? Should I just move forward and look at another card that's comparable?

You can definitely apply again, though how many inquiries you have on your credit report (the one Chase pulls for you) will determine (amongst other things) your chances for approval.

If all you have 'against' you is a mortgage, and you have good credit, long credit history, low utilization, a long credit history, good income, not too many (recent) inquires on your report etc. then there's a real chance you'll get approved via recon.

Assuming there is no way to know how many inquiries have been made?

He didn't answer it, with all due respect to both of you.

Okay, so the answer is that you can transfer even one point between UR accounts. Better?

There is no better or worse here.
Simply one was an answer and one was not. Thank you for your answer and oldguy please don't take offense.

Seems like there's no single thread for UR transfers like there is for SPG, but just wanted to post a data point.

UR-IHG was not instant. Sent it through a few hours ago and still nothing. Will check tomorrow.
