on the phone with ua...will see what happens...they said that the fact that pax received an email means that management has marked the flight an 'incident flight'...

law includes both flight to/from TLV

submitted a claim...law seems to say minimum delay of 8 hours...so perhaps 7 hours wont cut it...they said it takes up to 30 days to respond...i can always take the $250 worst comes to worst.

Sorry didnt realize it needed to be 8 hrs or more. Doubt you will get more than the $250.

I may be wrong, but from what I remember there are a few stages what means delayed, for 8 hours you get a lot of money, but even for less then 8 hours you should recieve some. Don't rely on them... Check up the laws your self.

I was on the same flight and got the same email. From what I can tell from this document: http://www.tourism-law.co.il/pdf/AviationServicesLawENG.pdf, and I'm no lawyer, but it days for 5-8 hours we're entitled  to reimbursement of the consideration. I have no idea what that means.

Also interesting are there are apparently laws that stipulate they needed to provide food and drink within limits and communication benefits, and if they didn't you can basically sue for up to 10k nis (based on other factors) - again I think. Just had time to glance over the document and I don't exactly speak legalese.

Nope, don't think so, but sounds like an interesting conversation!

True, but that also means paying more, and for me I try to avoid paying for any ticket in the first place. For that reason, I don't even know if I would use the 250 credit, although the 10k miles is a pretty lousy choice. I'd rather have 3000 nis in cash  ;D , although if they did hand out vouchers and I was in the lounge and missed it I don't think I'd really be able to claim it. Although I didn't have internet or phone service, and stupid EWR doesn't have free wifi, so maybe I could complain about that...

They never made a formal announcement...could be because the PA system was down..:)

However, outside it quickly got crazy at the counter as people tried to rebook..there was a family on the way to a funeral so united was under pressure

@rots5

Most of my tickets on ua have been 1300 or less though I'll have to check t/c's as far as ticket restrictions..I'm sure y class is pricey vs regular fare class
