Just sent this to Barclays Bank.
"To whom it may concern,
I recently flew on 3 US Airways flights, and was denied the free bag I was supposed to receive as a Barclay's US Airways cardholder.
I just got off the phone with the disputes department who agreed to my challenge of the charges. While they were quick to resolve this issue, I'm greatly disappointed that this issue arose on three separate flights in the last few weeks.
I live in central NJ, making Philadelphia Airport the most convenient for my travel. USAirways' hub is in Philadelphia, and so they often have the best choice of flights for my travels. Considering the above, I thought it was a good idea to get the US Airways credit card; both for the miles awarded for spending, and for the free bag when flying. When I checked in for my flight and was told my card does not give the benefits promised, I began to reconsider if I should continue my membership.
I can understand if once in a while there is error in the system, which requires someone to correct it. Zero out of three separate flights does not seem like an error. I'm sure that many people who have had the same experience, did not follow up, assuming there was some reason why their particular flight was not eligible for the aforementioned benefit. As a result, many customers have been forced to pay the extra fee, when in fact they should not have.
If a reliable system is not place for the delivery of this benefit, the much-advertised benefit of 1 free bag, is a manipulation of customers. Worse it is false advertising, an illegal practice.
Extremely disappointed,
