PSA.
I was having trouble getting compensation from LX
They kept on giving me different excuses and each time had to wait a few weeks for a response

Used air help.com and they got my money! -25%
Worth it if you don't want to deal with the back and forth

For me they used a certain part as "extraordinary circumstances" - and I made a claim to the Swiss regulators and they didn't answer me a straight answer

On behalf of SWISS, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience this caused your clients. However, I assure you that our flights are not delayed without good reason and in this instance it was due to technical problems (bleed valve engine). The cause of this irregularity was unexpected and safety has the utmost priority at SWISS. It is an unavoidable fact that flight irregularities can occur at short notice. As such circumstances are considered extraordinary. Therefore, I regret to inform you that no compensation is due.

Group of 4 delayed 4+ hours on DL141 BRU-JFK yesterday.

"Mechanical Issues", waiting for "spare part".

Submitted EU261 to Delta.

They said they did not finalize if this "incident" qualifies for compensation. Will know later this week.

I pointed out that only weather is exempted, the Phone rep literally laughed.

Yesh Tikva?

Update

Same phone rep called this morning.

"You are each entitled to 600 EUR for your delay. Please confirm mailing address for a check of $2,725.84"

All for 26,000 SkyPesos and $57 in taxes!

That's a great outcome!! Congrats!!

Curious - based on EU261, if the flight were from JFK to BRU on DL, what, if any, compensation would have you been entitled to?

No. EU261 applies on European airlines in either direction, non European airlines only departing Europe, not to EU

you're not entitled to any, unless on an EU airline.

None - compensation is only if delayed from EU, or on a EU carrier flying into EU.

Makes you wonder if it's worth it to specifically fly EU carriers to EU if price is similar to a US carrier.

Wouldn't have thought infants would be eligible for compensation if they weren't seated. Good to know.

Even more than that - one of the people in our party decided to stay in Europe and didn't even show up for the flight. But he's getting 600 EUR anyways. EU261 is clear about all this, it's a shame that the USA doesn't care about the paying passenger.

But then again, this is the land of private medical insurance :-[

Better make sure your flight is before maybe or who knows what protections you'll get post brexit.

In Jan, so am good to go. BTW all the kind of laws will be post-Brexit too, according to my understanding of May's current deal.
