Flew Lufthansa MIA-MUC-TLV. Crew arrived at the gate 15 minutes before scheduled departure, and boarding was completed an hour late. The crew’s delay was apparent and was announced at the gate and onboard. We arrived in MUC 1.5 hours late, which resulted in a missed connection.
I requested compensation under Israeli aviation law, to which they first responded that I could’ve made the connection. After responding with the arrival and departure times, and mentioning that none of the 17 TLV-bound passengers made their connection, they sent me this:
Thank you for your inquiry dated March 17, 2025.
We understand your wish to receive compensation. Please allow us to clarify why we are unable to fulfill your request.
Our decision has been carefully considered, taking into account, we are unable to provide compensation since at the same time, air traffic control and airport rules and regulations are strictly enforced.
Although Lufthansa has no influence over these processes, we are still obligated to abide by them, which ultimately led to the delay of your flight. As much as we understand your wish to be compensated for this frustrating experience.
Of course, our decision was made after assessing carefully considering the legal liability along with goodwill considerations. Therefore, we kindly request your understanding that we choose to uphold our decision and consider the case closed.
Should you wish to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), please be advised that Schlichtungsstelle Reise & Verkehr e.V. is competent to deal with your complaint and Lufthansa is prepared to submit to an ADR procedure operated by this arbitration body.
