Had an almost 4 hour delay from time of landing until we were given a gate and deplaned. It was weather related bit United granted a $150 e-voucher instantly to everyone on board if you requested it online. I was actually pretty impressed.

That's why I always say ask for comp even for weather delay. Can't hurt.
I'm not who you think I am.

No it didn't :).

Yes it was around 20 mins less than the 4 hour mark IIRC. First jetway couldn't be opened due to lightning and then it was broken and they couldn't repair because it was raining really hard. It took them until about 1/2 hour before the 4 hour mark to decide to change to another gate with a functional jetway. How much should I be asking for?

DOT does not allow more then 3 HR on plane with giving option to leave.

I thought it was 4 hours. If it's only 3, then what are they required to give if they could not give the option to leave and we were stuck there?

What flight was this?

TLV to EWR last week

From the DOT site:
"For flights landing at U.S. airports, airlines are required to provide passengers with an opportunity to safely get off of the airplane before 3 hours for domestic flights and 4 hours for international flights."

So since this was International the 4 hour rule applies and they made sure to get us off just before that deadline so they would not be in violation.

United Flight from VCE to EWR in economy did not have kosher meals for us even though it was on our profile preference. We were given $100 x 2 United evouchers.

Is that even if weather conditions don't allow?

Is that even if weather conditions don't allow?

I was wondering the same because they told us they can't do stairs due to the pouring rain which would obviously make it very slippery and hazardous. I was wondering how they would offer an option to deplane at the 4 hour mark given the horrible weather, but "thankfully" we didn't make it all the way to the 4 hour mark so I couldn't find out  :).

On a side note, customer service did give me another voucher when I reached out and said that I feel the instant $150 was insufficient especially given the fact that it wasn't completely weather related (non operating jetway was mechanical).  So they tried their luck by giving all $150 right away and this will probably keep most people quiet and happy, but they do realize that more compensation is in order in this case and are willing to give it if you ask nicely.

United EWR-TLV flight cancelled due to weather last night. Sat on plane for hours, it seems, before being told cancelled. In-laws returned home 12 hours after they were supposed to take off. Don't have luggage yet. What comp could they receive- most likely cancelling their trip and not trying to reschedule..

Interesting, because when you check the incoming flight from Chicago, it says delayed due to technical issues. Always easy to blame the weather.
BTW, they actually departed at 12:37pm today. Almost 14 hours late!
