Had a convenient night flight yesterday from TLV - SFO with UA955 and then a short stop over to connect to UA555 arriving in SAN at 8.55am.
Once boarded and waiting for take off, we were informed that due to a malfunction with the Toilets, the flight is canceled.
Hysterically we called United explaining them the importance of us having to fly to SAN and insisted on them somehow getting us there.
After much emotional distress & pressure, we managed to convince the check in girl in TLV to give us the last seat on a flight to SAN with a stop over in FRA.
Due to the short connection in FRA the entire flight turned from what was meant to be a convenient relaxed night flight, to a hectic unrelaxed, sweaty experience.
Obviously the new Lufthanser flight did not have our ordered Kosher meals , basically having forced us to starve / fast for nearly 24 hours.
According to European law, Regulation (EEC) No 295/91, due to us arriving at our final destination more then 4 hours later then scheduled, we would be entitled to 600 € compensation, but after doing some research, I can find no regulation with American carriers.
Anyone here have experience or advise as to what we would be able / entitled to claim ?
It really messed up the entire experience and made us suffer throughout the entire flight.
Any American companies that specialise in flight compensation claims as there are in Europe ?
