So AA did a double cancellation/bump on me.

1) First, they moved me from a 5:50am flight departing TLV in premium economy, to one departing at 5:30am with a different stopover city in basic economy, this despite the original flight operating as scheduled.

>>> they rebooked me on a non stop to JFK (at my request) so i was semi ok with it. still not happy about losing my premium economy seat + having to pay out an additional $100 for 2nd pc of luggage.

2) then on my next leg departing from NYC, they did a last minute cancellation when I was at the airport.

>>> they rebooked me for the following day as nothing available that night, and offered me taxi fare + night at hotel. not happy at all with this + had to pay an additional $30 in luggage fee, as i collected bags when doing airport change.

Any suggestions on how to "properly" complain and actually get something substantial out of this?

So far, I've struck out, as all reps on phone/airport say they have no authority and only AA customer relations (via email) can do anything.

Is it better to ask for specific amount of compensation (whether in dollars, credit, miles) or to leave open ended, if mention compensation at all?

You do need to complain on their website, you won't get anything from phone reps.
Personally, I would ask for $ exactly the amount you spent, and then ask for goodwill compensation  for the tircha. See what they give you. If you're not happy with the amount you can reply then. Alot depends why they cancelled.

Yes, it can take time. Especially for what you are expecting a response on.
How long should I expect?
It's been 3.5 weeks already.

Give it another month at least.

Wow! 2 months?!
I'll take your word for it but that sounds unnecessarily long to me.

Our two daughters had a return flight from Melbourne to JFK with a 3 hour stopover in LAX.
Upon their arrival in LAX at 7pm, they were informed that their connecting flight was cancelled. They sent them to a hotel overnight and then put them on the following flights:
LAX to ORD ,1 hour stopover, and then ORD to EWR.
How should we proceed with requesting reimbursement? And what can we expect for these delays - flight cancellation, rebooked only for the next day, with an additional stopover, and a change in destination airport
Thank you!

Delta boarded a PHX-JFK flight on Friday and then deboarded After 3 hours.
They ended up flying Sunday (today) from PHX-LGA.

Unfortunately- luggage was not deplaned on Friday and was sent to JFK Friday and is waiting there.

Is there a way to get delta to transfer it to LGA prior to landing?

Probably the best way to get it is to go to jfk and not rely on delta to do anything. After you can make a claim for compensation but main thing is to get your luggage.

TK, delay departing TLV resulting in 13 hour overnight connection in IST. No food or accommodations offered. Requested compensation under IL law and reimbursement for lounge access and got the following response:

We’re sorry that your travel plans were disrupted.

However, we regret to inform you that we’re unable to pay compensation for flight TK-0157 on 31st of May 2022, which was delayed by 13 hours 5 minutes due to operational reasons.

The regulation issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Turkish DGCA) in the year 2012 required us to pay compensation as a result of the delay you suffered. However, we cannot pay compensation for such irregularities starting from April 05, 2017 due to the "motion for stay of execution" adopted by the court.

We do everything we can to make sure our flights depart on time, but occasionally circumstances outside our control can cause delays.

We look forward to serving you better on your next flight with us.

WTH! Where do I go from here?
Replied that I’m requesting compensation under Israeli law and attached a link from their website stating the law.
This was their response:

First of all, we apologize for the adverse effect of this irregularity that happened beyond our control on your flight plan, and for the inconvenience you had in the meantime.

Please be informed that we evaluate the flight irregularities according to Regulation On Air Passenger Rights which is applied Turkish Civil Aviation rules (SHY Passenger) and EC regulations.

Please see the some rules and conditions of EC regulation below;

To passengers departing from an EC airport or from an airport located in a third country with an EC airline to an airport into an EC country, unless they received benefits or compensation and were given assistance in that third country,

Only if you have a confirmed reservation on the flight concerned,

Only if you (except in the case of cancellation) present yourself for check-in as stipulated and at the time indicated in advance and in writing by the airline or if no time was indicated not later than 45 minutes before the published departure time,

Only if you travel at a fare available directly to the public.

With the reason that your flight departed from non-EU destination you will not be compensated for related irregularity.

Our apologies, again, for your unfavorable experience. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back on-board our airline sometime soon and replace any negative impressions with a more positive one.

Are they stupid or do they think I am?!

Nah, they're smart. What're you gonna do about it, besides suing, which they're hoping you won't? Lots of airlines stonewall you and play dumb when you ask for mandatory comp.

Could be it's worth trying to tweet them, and tagging pertinent Israeli agency handles.
