DL 1010 DFW-DTW eclipse flight

I should have remembered that the sun sets in the west… Im on the right side of the plane, what are the chances that the plane circles a little so everyone gets to see?

I wouldn’t normally do this, I think its a little crazy to leave once in a lifetime opportunities up to aviation… but I have a wedding and sheva brachos sunday/monday, and this is my only chance to actually be able to see it at all.

But the point is that the plane gets extended time in the path and Delta makes more money

The beauty of the eclipse is on the ground. Feeling the temperature plummet, listening to the animals getting confused, seeing the weird shadows, etc.

But from a plane where half the plane can't even see it? I don't get it.

I definitely hear that, but not seeing it at all or seeing it from a plane? I would assume the plane is better than nothing, and I would imagine its still pretty cool from the plane.

I anyways booked an AA flight that is flying similar timing to PHL on the left side on their 787 so I will probably take that, and either get to see it from the air or hope my flight is delayed enough that i can see it from an outdoor balcony in DFW

Also, just one pointer, if its a cloudy day its a little disappointing for those on the ground..

But without other factors weighing in, I agree with you 100% why would you get on a plane if you’re going to be there on the ground. I just wont get to see it otherwise if I don’t do this

Confused, why would someone try to see the eclipse from a plane while they can see it from the ground?
Is this just a case of the airlines try to market things?

cleavland is around 2:15pm and 48.8 degrees above horizon (you want it to be below 30 to view it from a plane)

@Dan did not take the flight in the end, though it seems from reports at TPG who were on the plane that they did get to see the eclipse from the air as anticipated, though it was a dissappointing experience it seems due to quickness of the sight and the plane not getting to bank so much due to increased traffic in the eclipse path

He said that he would not do it again, and most others said it as well.

Though they did prove that article wrong that its impossible to see it from the plane, just not a great experience
