Were can you still get a haircut for $17
NYC its like 37-47 standard
My kids i pay $25 each and throw in an extra $5 tip if im taking 2 hair cuts.
For myself i pay $40 and i usually. Add an extra $2-$3.
Lakewood is mostly approaching $25 for a 8-10 minute haircut.
Thank you Brandon!

At some point in this thread, we have to define what a haircut means.

Buzz cut, $10 makes sense.

Scissor cut with styling, shampoo, etc doesn't make sense at $10.
In Israel there is a difference for the different haircuts.
A buzz will be from 30-40 shekel (around 8-12 dollars) while a more professional one will be 40-70 shekel (12-20 dollars).

To me it sounds like a lot for cutting hair... Do you personally think it's a lot, or it's just the price you have to pay. Also, how often do you get haircuts?
A buzz cut has been $15 10 years ago. I think the official price is $20 for my kids and an extra $5 for the appointment. I think its high but i have 2 left hands and the not waiting is well worth the $5 a haircut.

For myself its usually 20-25 minutes and he does scissor cut and beard and its with appointment. Overall i think its high, but from what i hear these are the prices. I guess it also matters if you let random people cut your hair. The same person has cut my hair for the last 10 years. (with the exception of him having a baby erev rosh hashana one year)

Ok, I hear. Factoring in the beard and the appointment, I can understand the 40, especially when you've been using him for the last 10 years... What abt my case, where he isn't my consistent barber for a long time, 17 for a simple & quick cut, with waiting if it's busy... Is a tip still necessary..?

It's definitely expected. What you decide to do is your cheshbon.

Relative to the crazy tip amounts in restaurants (and pretty much everywhere else at this point), my personal take is the extra few dollars on the haircut gets me much more for my money than any other tip. I usually give between $3-5, depending on whether its a guy I usually go to or some random guy I'll never see again. My guy is happy, will make sure I'm happy, and won't avoid scheduling an appointment with me. If it's a random guy, I still give a few bucks because it's mentchlech and I wear a yarmulka.

I pay $25 with a little massage and a hot towel (and shots on Friday  ;)) , and they clean the hair off me (Lakewood, take notes.)  in the flatbush (Coney & H) area.
I always tip minimum $5.

Ok, So I came out with a conclusion...
I was on the phone with my mother a little earlier, so decided I'll ask her what she thinks about giving tips at the barbershop...
She told me I should for sure give at least $2 if not $3...
So I got my answer... Bli Neder that's what I'll be doing when I go to the barber shop next...

I wanted to see what people think about this... The thoughts were very mixed, so that definitely didn't help me make up my mind...

Yes, if the barber isn't the owner.

I think $2-$3 for a standard haircut.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

What did your mother say about you hanging around on the internet with strangers too much, or you didn't tell her you do?..
