  • Please post the mekor (source) for the Halacha cited.
  • Please try to limit discussion of the mentioned halachos. This can be done in another thread. Unless you have a limud z’chus - in that case please cite the source.
@AsherO

I would like a list of potential pitfalls. This is not the Shulchan Aruch here, but to raise awareness, so people will know to look into it, or ask their rabbi.

I'm constantly bewildered at how many people aren't aware of basic hilchos tefilla, as in Shachris after chatzos is an issur of Bracha Levatala, and the main inyan in tefilla betzibur ('minyan') is starting Shmone Esre together with 9 others, and not Barchu/Kedusha etc.

Wrong thread for mekoros but I’ll reply here:

Brought in the ילקוט מעם לועז פרשת כי תבא כז:כו (mentions pinky)
And in this sefer from ר׳ חיים פאלג׳י (mentions finger)
https://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=49496&st=&pgnum=29

From the Arizal. Brought in Mishna Brura and other seforim.

Brought in Ben Ish Chai and others.
Pinky is a sefardishe minhag as you bring down here.

Which the ashkenazim have adopted as it's not polite to point with the pointer...

And then there is how to do Hagbah...
There are different shitas...

Full 360...
Half way half way...

Both are correct. The Ikar is that everyone in the Shul should be able to see the kesav... Because that's when you're supposed to say V'zos HaTorah...

Doesn't say to point at all in Ashkenazi sources.

And do you turn to the right first or show the right (I.e. turn to the left) first.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

This is a bit complex. There are sources that indicate 6 starting at the same time would be enough. It’s a מג״א, iirc.
Rav Moshe doesn’t like it, but many defend it.

R moshe says they don't say 6 is enough. IIRC it says it's "tefilla im hatzibur" which R Moshe says is not tefilla b'tzibbur. He says anything less than 10 davening SH"E together is not tefilla b'tzibbur.

The worst are places that start SH"E with 6 but wait for 10 for chazaras hashatz.

Why? It's pretty clear in SHA HaRav that this is how it works.

Don’t forget the bowing by Hagbah. Men AND women. It’s straight out Halacha in Shulchan Aruch with practically no חולקים in the Gedolei haposkim, unlike the pinky. Indeed, the Shulchan Aruch is verbatim from Meseches Sofrim which is the source for saying V’zos Hatorah- the men and women must see the ksav, and bow while saying V’zos…

You need a minyan for kedusha.
You don’t need 10 to start Kaddish tiskabel (by maariv or after mincha haicha kedusha) rather you only need 6 to start. This is because it’s just a continuation of s”e. But for Kaddish yasom you will need 10 (so keep that in mind).

in the words of

Not exactly. You're possibly conflating two separate things depending how you hold. Any kedusha that is part of the previous part where you had 10 but some disappeared, you can continue, as opposed to an unrelated davar shebkdusha. Then there is a separate discussion regarding 10 who are present, but unable to answer due to davening or sleeping, etc. then 6 (rov) would be sufficient.
