Tisha B'av reading material
« on: July 18, 2021, 08:22:18 AM »
There are many books that have been published about the Churbanos and other appropriate Tisha B'av reading, but I find many of them to be very dry and hard to read. There are a few that I found to be very good, but I'm looking for more.

Here are the ones I thought were good:

The Kingdom Didn't Fall, by Meir Baram. Although it's geared for young teenagers, I still read it almost every year, as he did a great job putting the story of Churban Bayis Sheinei into a historical novel. I don't know it the book is available anymore, though. (It sells on Amazon for $200.)

Miraculous Journey, by Rabbi Yosef Eisen. Not a Tisha B'av book specifically, but a comprehensive, one-volume Jewish history book. Includes the details of both Churbonos, as well as an extensive overview of the holocaust, done in an extremely moving manner.

The Artscroll Kinnos. Artscroll included detailed introductions to many of the kinnos, with full historical context, and it makes for compelling reading even while not in middle of saying kinnos.

Any other suggestions?

I've heard that Chains, by Leah Gebber, is a good Tisha B'av book, but I've never read it.

This is a story I clipped from the Lakewood Shopper this Pesach. I thought it was interesting, and had a good message for Tisha B'av.
