it's often hard enough to find a picture that's guessable but not too easy, we shouldn't make it harder. Just don't do the image search as tempting as it might be.

I hear you. I prefer err on the side of too hard, and then come up with fun clues to progress the game if no one gets it. The googling has no bearing on the instantly recognizable ones anyway.

I was talking about doing a reverse image search.

If you're talking based about searching based on identifying characteristics in the pic I think that's basically SOP.

So the question is once you get a hint like this are you allowed to google the hint itself? e.g. can I google "Only true peak on the East Coast?"

Personally I think that kinda defeats the purpose, I think there's enough info there that with the slightest effort it can be solved.

Even without googling the hints, just using the information provided, It didn't take me much work to figure out that it's Seneca Rocks in West Virginia

I was saying that googling is fair game, and that it should be on the poster to make sure it's not super easy to turn the clues, either visual (the actual pic) or otherwise, into the right answer.

If I know I don't recognize a picture at all, I end up right clicking and hitting search Google for image, as I did here. You'll notice that the first result for the original pic is Seneca Rocks.

I didn't post the answer, so I think it's fine. The point is, you're on a fairly anonymous forum, and certainly no one would know if you did image search your answer. So just remove that factor by checking the pics before you post, that's all. I think you'd be surprised how few of the pics posted here (or just people's pictures in general) would generate the correct answer with an image search.

Well we know it's a beach that probably faces west (could be east but it's far more likely to have boaters in the water at sunset rather than sunrise) looking out at a body of water where the other side is at least far enough to be past the horizon, and has seagulls.
