Re: Aruba weekend. Hyatt SPG or Marriott?
« Reply #20 on: February 21, 2012, 04:37:10 PM »
im planning a 4 night trip to aruba and debating where to stay on points any opinions? just for some info hyatt is 22k per night spg is 4k plus $60 and marriot is either 30k or 40k depending on which marriott
i dont know how someone would blow 22k points on 1 night hotel when you can go cross country with those points (unless u have unlinited points)

If the hotel is $500 a night and you use 22K than you are getting more than .02 value so whats not to understand?

I'm not disagreeing with you, but perhaps what stever is saying is that you can get even better value (than 2.28cpm) when redeeming for flights.

I am assuming that he is using miles for his flight too. What we try to do here is get both flights and hotels for free!!! :)

Hence his stipulation that you have sufficient miles for both, and his suggestion that if you don't you should save your miles for flights and use cash for hotels.

There is no Chabad in Aruba.

There are supermarkets within a short bus or Taxi ride from the Hotel strip with lots of Kosher food. (No meats, cheeses.........)

The Radisson standard room for points is a resort view, does anyone have any experience getting an upgrade here?
Or any info on the hotel itself?

Suppose to be the nicest Radisson. Saw it only from the outside looks like a typical radisson. Im sure it's not nicer then the hyatt and other ones in the area.

Was just there for 6 days.
There's pretty much water sports and relaxing.

Stayed at the Westin. Try to get suite with room ending 00 or 01 and I think 02. Those are full facing ocean and have two porch's

Hong King supermarket has kosher cereal, milk, yogurt and many other things you might find in a american store. Its approx 10 min drive. I rented a car for $150 for the week. The ride to and from airport is $30 each way. So all tog I'd rather have the flex of having my own car.

Was there in the winter, stayed at the westin. I would recommend renting a car, you could drive a little away from the hotel area and find desserted beaches. Hong King supermarket has lots of kosher food (not cholov yisrael) but really expensive. There are tons of water sports to do there just ask by the hotel. Its always hot there with a nice breaze. The casino in the hotel is not worth much. When renting a car try to get a bigger car as most of the small cars there are not typical and are junky.
