Where's the option for a physical maps printout?

I usually use maps with a hint of waze.

Definitely depends on the location though.

Uber data doesn't say how many phones are running apple maps..
I can't recall ever seeing an Uber driver using Waze

Uber is obviously incentivized to make drives as efficient as possible, I’m sure they ran proper testing. And given that that each app has an API, they can easily incorporate directions from each provider in the native Uber app, and randomize the navigation provider over a massive data set. They can also easily determine if the directions were followed, and if not, remove that drive from the dataset.

I assume OP is talking about a link like this one, which probably only opens in Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/h4WwStWRmeFMGTGE6?g_st=ic

Obviously, since that links directly to Google maps. Clicking/selecting on just an address on an Apple device should lead to Apple Maps.

Btw, speaking of Apple Maps, they have this cool feature called Flyover tour, when searching for a large city you have the option to view a birds-eye view tour of the main icons of that city.

How I use them

Google maps: finding info on a store/company, like phone numbers, website link, hours of operation, etc. (currently using for navigation, but switching to AM to try it out)

Correct, though this problem I believe is mainly only on a regular search, since most business listed on Google maps is owned by that company.

I wonder if Apple maps has access to aggregate route and traffic data from Apple device holders even when they are not using Apple maps I don't think Google has that kind of access on Android devices

That doesn’t really matter. They have over 10 billion rides annually. Even 10% of drivers using their app would be more data than needed.

And not that they need this - they can also pull all 3 routes for each drive and use it to determine which app the driver is using.

Any source that they do this?

I tried using Apple Maps for my commute this morning. About 2 minutes in, I switched to Waze.

I tried Google maps in the past, but stopped using it because I found that when connectivity (GPS or Internet) was lost (or bad) it didn't give voice prompts.

So I default to Waze presuming it will show me traffic, incidents, etc. to avoid.

Habits are hard to change, but there's definitely a case to be made for Apple maps (especially if using an Apple watch, which vibrates to make you aware of turns etc.).

One of the most annoying thing for me with any of the apps is the audio prompts. I want them loud, and by default I don't want them to use Bluetooth (that is reserved for calls, podcasts, etc). If I decide to use Bluetooth for the prompts, whatever audio is already playing on Bluetooth must be automatically paused for the map prompt, and resumed (possibly going back a couple of seconds) when prompt is over.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Professionally, I am a home health therapist and I'm in the car for a good chunk of the day covering a decent size territory. I use Google maps daily, as it has an excellent interface that's easy to read and understand, lane guidance, and the ability to see alternate routes with their corresponding time differences. It goes really well with my Android auto as well. I also like the Big brother aspect of how it can predict what my next destination is going to be based on either the day of the week or time of day, which works especially well when I have regular appointments.

I have it set up to audibly tell me about unusual events (speed trap, car accident, etc), but not turn by turn destinations.

For an Android user, Google maps is probably the best option (because Waze sucks)

For iOS users I'd say Apple maps has a much better UX (especially when using Apple CarPlay).

Traffic prediction Google maps vs Apple maps is probably similar/same. & Waze makes up their own traffic and takes you through someone's driveway, only for you to realize that the main road is nice and clear.

I love how you say this because usually everyone just uses this type of thing to bash the company about how they "invade on your privacy", and rarely does anyone focus on the benefits...
