Best navigation app for daily use (Apple maps?)

As per ~King Lake~’s rec I tried Apple Maps on a longer trip today. It lasted until it confused me by a fork and didn’t provide instructions which in turn cost me 7 minutes. Went right back to Waze. Waze is not perfect but at least it’s clear in most cases ime.

I find google maps is far better than Waze at turn by turn directions. Also the navigation voiceover is not nearly as lengthy (read: less annoying) and has better timing as well.

When I got my last car, a Honda Odyssey, it was only offered in the Elite trim (which wasn't available for delivery).

... I also like the Big brother aspect of how it can predict what my next destination is going to be based on either the day of the week or time of day, which works especially well when I have regular

I also like the history not so much for predictions but simply being able to look back.

Although from this it seems like it's for the most part going away I wish they'd give the option to continue as usual

Why? Default it to off or turn off.

Once I change phones or don't have it on me I won't be able to check.

I know there's a Takeout for location history but from a quick Google search there doesn't seem to be a way to import it

Happens to be, today I did a user research study with Google. I was hoping to be able to give my feedback about this specific thing but it didn't happen.

I want to keep all my timeline history backed up, but don't have that cloud icon there. I thought the issue might be that I need to update Google Maps, but I did and it's still not there. Can't figure out how to keep it backed up. (This is on an iPhone 13 mini.)

Separate issue which I've had for a while is that I have a bunch of years of timeline history (which I like having) on a google account that I don't use much anymore. I wish there was a way to transfer it, but I've searched a few times over the years but never found a way to move it between account.

In my experience Apple maps knows the exact layout of most parking lots and can give you exact directions to a specific exit in massive parking lots.

I think I once spent like 20 min trying to get out of this parking lot. If only I knew....
