@cgr it’s almost time for an oil change
Remind me at 5k miles  ;)
We had the car inspected and oil changed before heading out.
Reminder (again)!

Fascinating thread and thanks for keeping us all updated.

How do you make sure you don't miss attractions and sights in the area you're in? Do you check while you're in the area, or pre planned? Are you staying in points hotels every night that you book on the go?

I don't think that's possible, especially since we don't have unlimited time (even if it might seem that way...). We put together a basic list of things we want to cover in each state before heading out, and how many days we can allot to each area, and we narrow down the details as we go.

Are you staying in points hotels every night that you book on the go?

Car camping and hotels
So far hotels have all been points/certs booked at a maximum of 5 days in advance.

Phenomenal thread and pics indeed. Looks like you're heading down the West Coast, is that the case?

not going to lie, I've been following and this looks like an amazing trip! I usually don't like traveling, and my vacations (what vacation) usually are to Israel or somewhere where I can just chill by a pool and eat good food (aka Miami). But I do love niflaos haborei and these pictures are next level! I wish I was willing to put in the effort to make such a trip happen

Indeed looks like such a successful trip. I'm jealous. I can't even count all the likes on this thread.

If thats what you count as successful why dont you just make up your own TR road trip?

@cgr I'm curious to know what tools you used/use for trip planning? apps/books etc.
I’m in shape, round is a shape…

For research, reading through tens of blogs for each destination (including DDF).

For travel:
Offline Google Maps
Offline NPS Parks (less useful than anticipated as we find the NPS paper maps preferable)
AllTrails for hiking
Overlander for campsites/showers (not always reliable, and by no means exhaustive, but a good starting point)

If I may ask, what car are you driving? I'm sure you rented (flying back?/not to put so much miles on your own car). I'd splurge some money for a good car with so much driving involved.

We didn't rent, nor are we planning to fly. We're driving my leased SUV- a not very comfortable Mazda CX30 (if we'd known 3 months ago when my husband's lease was up that we'd be doing this trip my husband would've gotten a more comfortable vehicle...).  We've been doing all driving over 30 miles distance in my husband's car since we decided on this trip, and plan to do that for the foreseeable future. By the time my lease is over in 2 years we should be back within the limits or no more than 1k miles over (and with my contract at just .15 per overage, the cost should be minimal).
