If you are still in Skokie, maybe add "Illinois Nut and Candy" to your itinerary? My favorite chocolate/candy shop! (I love their chocolate coated cherries, their candy apples, and their English toffee.)

Other than amusement parks? It's home to the best coasters on Earth. :D
Incredible beach and can take a ferry to the Lake Erie Islands.
There's a safari around there too.

I like some aspects of Indiana Dunes more than Isle Royale and Voyageurs, although I don't think any of them deserve National Park status.
