Can someone please be devil's advocate for me and argue what the Dems were thinking when choosing Biden as nominee? They obviously knew at least as much as we did about his cognitive decline.

I'm struggling as well. Only other theory I have is Biden hid it from them as well, otherwise he might have had real opponents in the primaries .

Biden couldn't hide from us, but could he have hidden it from his closest allies? That doesn't seem plausible.

My only explanation at this point is that they believed replacing Biden during the primaries would have undermined the remainder of his presidency, potentially boosting Trump's chances. It's also possible they couldn't convince Biden to go along with such a plan. Their next best option may have been to make a late swap that could generate momentum without giving the new candidate enough time to falter.

Another viable strategy could have been to keep Biden but replace Kamala, but that might have alienated their leftist base.

Alternatively, it's possible that they are not as clever, united, or fortunate as they portray themselves to be.

Interesting, everyone is talking about Biden stepping down as the nominee; where is the call for him to step down as president?

25th Amendment may be the Dems best path to winning in November...

Honestly his current situation isn't that bad, it's about where his decline is heading to remain another four years.

Who care about whether or not he can be president? All that matters is of he can beat Trump.

I had the same problem with my theory.

Maybe he has been keeping is interactions with other dems to a minimum. His white house staff don't want him replaced because it puts their jobs/power at risk (even if he is replaced with another dem it is not a sure thing (s)he will keep them on staff)
still not a great theory though

I’m not saying this was their plan from the beginning, but if think about it.
The current race has nothing to do with policy, just Biden’s age.
The second someone else takes over, that doesn’t have the age issue, the energy in the Dem Party with be through the roof and they won’t even have to talk at all about their failed policies.

Boggles my mind that Reagan's famous debate line, "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience",  was said when he was just 73 years old.

In other words the more they hype up the age issue and the "time to step down"  calls the more energetic the voters will become when the nomination is finally redeemed. Great strategy no?
