There is a point that makes that I have heard from family members in the mental health "industry". Awareness is great but access is a major problem. Most frum practitioners do not take any insurance. Lower and middle income households are effectively priced out of decent care. No one is refused quality cancer treatment because of inability to afford it. For some reason, mental health care is treated differently.
I know nothing at all of the ins and outs of this case but have been involved in a number of various cases over the years. In general, it is this, this, this, and this.
Psychiatric care and Cancer Care are very different when it comes to how insurance will cover them and how one may be able to get single case agreements when a doctor is not participating in the plan. Even if a cancer patient doesn't have insurance that will cover what is needed, they will almost always be able to wiggle into getting one that is not the case with psychiatric care.
