unfortunately with any nuro/psych drugs its pretty much "throw things at the wall and see what sticks" obviously they have good guesses, but dosing is about raising and lowering the dose until you have a nice balance of stability and "not too severe" side effects, and off label use is the norm.

I do not blame doctors. Mental health is complicated and not well understood the brain and these drugs even less so. They try their best, unfortunately there are not always solutions and sometimes those solutions can cause more problems. Even with the best attempts things can happen.

Using a drug approved to treat one thing for another (like Hydroxychloroquine for covid)* not unusual in general but very common in psych.

*not getting into that discussion, just probably the example that most people would have heard of. Most of the time off label use is fine and completely legal.

He said an interesting anecdote, medicine has advanced so much in recent years, in technology in research, and everything else, still there's one thing that's the same as 1000 years ago, that is "uncertainty" which he says is by design so that we never lose sight of who is the בורא רפואות

Either way I am curious (or rather if you come across a reliable source/study) how many of those cases were on meds, and how many needed but refused meds, and how many were prescribed but didn't take their meds.
