Keeping things in a hot car in the summer months
« on: July 08, 2024, 07:59:53 PM »
I’m looking for ideas for what people do when keeping things in cars in the hot summers.

I always keep sefarim in my car and I have many that are now warped from the heat.  I have also

kept my phone there for a few hrs and when I came back it said it

was too hot to use. Does anyone else have this issue?

I’ve thought about using one of those insulated bags, but never actually tried it.

Use a 12v fridge. They are awesome.

Why I love DDF.
Question: how do I keep things cool in the car during the summer?
Answer: get a Grand Wagoneer  ;D

How does that not drain the car battery?

Leave it in the shul/by the rav until you leave?
There's no magic answer. Take two water proof bags put water or ice inside and let it sit. Actually likely make that three or four to be safe

Get a cooler same idea.

Somewhat related. I keep water bottles in my car and the water is always within drinkable temperature. It gets warm or hot but never very hot.

Polar bear bag with an ice pack?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

To be fair, for anyone not quite ready to step up to a Grand Wagoneer, the refrigerator has been an option in the Ford Flex since 2009.

A serious side note: I once heard from a sofer that extreme cold is also an issue for tefillin as it can cause the lettering to become brittle and crack.

If you're a Costco member, turn off auto membership renewal online and sign up for membership renewal in store to receive a nice large cooler bag. Very useful in car even for groceries in the trunk.

By any chance did he ever do experiments to see at what temperature that happens?

For tefillin, there are the insulated canisters that the odf soldiers use.
I know a rov who does hashgocha, that uses them for this purpose

A trunk full of stuff can stay cool in the blazing sun for many hours.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I roast everyday in my car because the AC is broken. Is there a portable AC small enough to go in a car?
