To Close or Not to Close?
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:32:51 PM »
Hi,

My wife and I currently have Chase Freedom (for a while now; two separate accounts) and Chase Sapphire cards (same account). The Freedoms is now dormant since we're using the Sapphire. Should get the Sapphire Preferred tomorrow by mail.

How should I treat the other cards? Close them? Keep them open but not charge against them?

Use the Sapphire except for purchases that will net you 5 points per dollar in the rotating categories.

Open chase checking accounts.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

That's what we've got - Chase checking accounts, independently (before we were married) and together (now)

Should we keep the other cards open or just close them out, INYO?

Freedom will generally get you more points than sapphire.

So SP's biggest plus is in its ability to transfer 1:1 or travel, but otherwise, the regular Joe card is the way to go on purchases?

Sapphire is better for dining and travel related purchases.
