(I used to put these in "Interesting Tech Articles" but that should really be reserved for something interesting re: tech.)
Mods: I couldn't decide if this should go in TT or News - you decide.

Intel's CPU instability and crashing issues also impact mainstream 65W and higher 'non-K' models — damage is irreversible, no planned recall
Intel will replace impacted units

What is this microcode rollout? I’ve never heard of anyone updating the firmware on their microprocessor.

It's not common but does happen. I believe it's usually done via BIOS update.

This was a response to the article I just posted, so lay off, people.
The answer is that officially, whatever issue that pertained to the processors has a microcode update that will fix it but isn't out yet. Without that update, in very few circumstances, the processor can damage itself and break, at which point Intel will replace it for you but won't apologize.
Depending on your needs, maybe go AMD? It would seem that nearly all Intel desktop processors (13th gen+) have this problem. What are you planning on doing with it?

I plan on using it for basic office type stuff, browsing and games such as minecraft, beamng.drive, open RCT2 and Juno new origins, and running VMs of old windows OSes to play old fashioned games. Not sure if it's true but I saw online AMD processors don't work well with virtualization, also heard that Intel works better with Nvidia Graphics Cards which I plan on getting one sometime, again not sure if this is true. Are Amd processors harder to build than intel? This is my first PC I plan on building so don't want to make it harder for myself unnecessarily. I am not sure how much longer I can wait because my current laptop <Specs at the end of this message> shuts down on itself from high CPU temps just from having several browser tabs open! My current PC is an old laptop hp probook 6550b with 8 gig of ddr3 RAM and intel core i5 m 460 @2.53 Ghz, it's crystalmark retro score is 1417

in terms of building, it’s the same thing to build amd vs intel. The only change is which mother board you are using and which cpu. Spec wise is a different story.

I remember seeing that to install a AIO on AMD you have to add a bracket or something which is an extra step.

I was under the impression that AIO cools better and lasts longer than regular air coolers

if you regularly max out the machine maybe but for casual use it’s probably overkill.

For the purposes I wrote upthread is that considered maxing out?

Not in the slightest.
If virtualization on AMD was a problem in the past, they all support it today.
