@mevinyavin I was expecting your analysis on this
I try to avoid listening to her ilk ever since I wasted 45 minutes listening to Obama accepting his win of the election in 2008.

PC Pro is reporting uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of Intel's microcode update, quoting an unnamed PC manufacturer.
Although they also say that Intel's generous 5yr warranty offer may not apply to OEMs.

About time. Every classy laptop line should do this. No more Zenbooks or Yogas with 8GB of RAM.

I wonder if the concept of RAM inflation exists?
ChatGPT describes it as this:

"RAM inflation" refers to the trend where modern computers come equipped with significantly more RAM than in the past, yet software applications have become increasingly resource-intensive. This results in a cycle where users need more RAM to run demanding software, leading to a perception that despite having more memory, performance may not improve as expected due to the growing demands of applications.
Who's the most ignored user on the forums?

I'm sure it does. May not change the facts on the ground, though.
I'm unsure why the 8GB amount that was enough for office work since Windows Vista (which required more than 4GB due to its heavy graphics options unless you turned them all off) shouldn't be enough today, either. (W7, W10 and W11 are less resource intensive than Vista was.) With a few exceptions, it IS enough today, yet some computers inexplicable hog more RAM and use space on the SSD for more when they have only 8GB. I had not believed it until I saw it a few times with my own eyes.

AnandTech is shutting down

AnandTech used to be a daily go to for me, such great indepth reports.

Cutless has done a great video explaining the situation.

I get that the 'used' too is part of the problem, sadly life etc takes up more time than looking at tech stuff over the years.  But still it's very disappointing to see the way tech media has been going the past 5-10 years.    Gamers Nexus is great and they usually do a lot of detail on things, but the likes of LTT I just can't stand.

I do miss the days of HardOCP and Xtreme Systems forum.

All the money goes to the click bait marketers. Can hardly find a decent review of any technology these days.

Possible damage to another one of the crucial locations for world technology: Spruce Pine, NC, the only place for mining the purest quartz (and the largest manufacturer of pure quartz), which is used in semiconductor manufacturing.

WD and Sandisk are in the process of splitting. WD will do HDDs and Sandisk will do flash memory (SSDs, flash drives, SD cards). The product lines are supposed to be renamed or something - it isn't clear - but this should be complete before the end of the year.

https://www.neowin.net/news/a-bug-in-word-deletes-documents-instead-of-saving-them/
Weird bug applies to documents with # in the title or with the .DOCX extension capitalized - saving the document instead deletes it to the recycle bin. Check the link if you have one of those.
