Getting STD insurance to pay for parental leave

Tried searching around but didn't see anyone covering this topic. I was wondering if anyone has experience buying STD insurance to cover for parental leave. Which carriers are best for this? Any important information to consider? My wife's employer doesn't offer STD, so looking what options are available.

No experience purchasing on your own, but I have through my employer (through Guardian), and it was a lifesaver while I was out on leave. The state disability maximum is quite minimal, so this supplemented almost to my complete salary.
