Extended weekend in Arizona - Flagstaff Sedona and Grand canyon
« on: September 17, 2024, 05:45:07 PM »
Our goal was to get away for weekend to someplace with minyan and kosher food (Chabad Shabbos Meals) . We left Thursday 11AM from EWR and arrived in PHX at 1pm Return Monday evening 10:15PM and arrived Tuesday 5:45AM

Flights

Outbound: Booked AA Main cabin via chase travel and got upgraded to exit row seats as Platinum Pro Return: booked with 25k AA points for Business. It was a redeye flight and wanted to get some rest so Tuesday can be a regular work day.

Hotel

Thursday night till Sunday we stayed at Hyatt Place Flagstaff only 6500 Hyatt points per night. Hotel is only 18 minute walk to Chabad, if you use shortcut behind chabad. Hotel is brand new and was completed at end of 2023

Sunday night we stayed at Hyatt Vacation Club At Piņon Pointe 12000 points

Thursday

Arrived in PHX 1PM. Rented car via Costco Travel - Avis
Lunch - LaBella Pizzeria and Restaurant - food was delicious.
We went to check out the kosher grocery in Pheonix, Imperial Market & Deli 737 E Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020
Bought some kosher snacks and food for To'amehu. The brisket was delicious! Grocery was fully stocked.

went around corner to Safeway to get some kosher wine and alcohol for shabbos.

Drive to Flagstaff is about two hours if you dont stop. We stopped in sedona and a few scenic lookouts on the way to take in some of the gorgeous beautiful views

Harding Springs Natural water fountain - Probably the best spring water i ever tasted. Its on the way between Sedona and Flagstaff on the 89A. The water fountain is just past 'Pine Flat campground', its on left side of the main road when driving towards Flagstaff, no need to hike there just pull to side of road. Real location: 2776+QV6 Munds Park, Arizona
(Google location shows it being inside forest 3000 feet away. But its just a ploy from the locals to keep people from finding it.)

Chabad of Flagstaff Mariv and Dinner. Food was so delicious and heimish by chef Efraim
order food in advance at https://www.thekoshercanyon.com/koshercuisine

Friday

Chabad of Flagstaff - Shachris, Breakfast

Take orange shuttle to Kaibob trail stop and from there hike to Ooh aah point (two mile hike about 70 minutes)
Take bus back to visitor center then take your car to Bright angel trail park and park car there.
Take red shuttle to powell point and mohave point (when getting off bus at each stop there is another shuttle every twelve minutes to get to next stop)
Drive car to Moran Point if you have time

If you have time take take your car to Imax ten minute drive its about a 60 minute movie (Would do this instead of red shuttle if tight in time, as you need 90 minute drive to get back before shabbos)
