Chances are they will just send you a check for the full value of the computer
will they make me send it in to them?

YMMV but probably not
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

did u actually try getting an item  fixed  on a product purchased with card A after having  closed card A? or are u just repeating what someone on DDF may have been lucky ??
as right now i have a laptop giving me issues on its way bk to dell but as i see someone else posted if they dont fix and need to come onto amex warranty dont want to be left out to dry as the lap top was bet 600-700
I am confirming as I was told by 3 CSR's from the extended warranty department that you just have to have an activate American Express account.

Nothing is guaranteed, but being as the extended warranty is a benefit offered on all AMEX CCs I don't see anything changing. Now if you wanted to do a purchase protection claim for example, that would require still having the original card open (in this case the platinum) as the other open card dosen't have that benefit (again this is what I was told by multiple CSRs...)

Quite possible. I was just talking about my experience which was asking about going from Platinum to Zync.

Edit: and looks like I am wrong. Per this page, Purchase Protection is actually on all Membership Rewards cards, but coverage for lost items is only on the Platinum card.

Hi All,
I'm about to purchase a dell laptop, i have the following Amex cards: Platinum, PR Gold and Business Membership rewards card.
Is there any difference on the quality of the purchase protection and extended warrenty on either of these 3 cards, or are they all the same?

I'm having similar problems with my laptop. My year will be up soon. Does it matter that I've had problems within the year?

I'm nervous that Amex will want to know if the problems started before their warrantee kicked in, and then its not really their problem.

Does anyone know if gc's are used on Amazon to purchase most of the purchase price, and then the remaining few dollars is put onto the AMEX (or Chase Sapphire), do all the protections still kick in?
Or does the whole purchase price need to be put onto the card?

AMEX covers the amount you paid on the AMEX.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

AMEX covers the amount you paid on the AMEX.
So if the item is 500, and you put 5 on the AMEX, is there an extended warranty?

Yes, up to $5.
how would that work, extended warranty up to $5? I think that if its not paid for completely on the amex than its not covered.

Which part don't you understand?
How do they only cover $5? They only extend the warranty to a value of $5?
Also, how does AMEX know that really cost a lot more but that you used GC's? They don't see the GC's on the statement. For all they know, you snagged a great deal
