Accident on rental car, only covered by credit card insurance
« on: September 19, 2024, 08:06:29 PM »
I am 22 years old, studying in college full time. I was recently in Florida and I rented a vehicle from Hertz. I was involved in an accident with a different car, the damage done to him was approximately 5-10 thousand dollars.

I paid for the rental with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, and used the card's insurance, but I did not purchase additional liability insurance. I am told that the damage done to the other car involved in the accident is not covered.

The other person's insurance company reached out, and they are threatening to suspend my drivers license if I do not respond.

My question to you is as follows, is there any way for me to avoid paying for all the damage? Should I explain to them that I am in college with little funds, and cannot afford to pay for this? Can I just ignore them?

I was told that you may have experience in this area,
Please advise on how to deal with this issue best,
I am sincerely hoping that you can be of help.

Thank you very much in advance.

Can you upload a copy of your rental contract so that we can see what exactly was and was not included in the rental.

Are you covered on any insurance policy for your or a family car? That policy will cover you. if you have nothing, speak to a lawyer or auto insurance professional for advice, besides whatever you get here.
