What’s the consensus on which Nespresso machine to get?
And are there good compatible cheaper “knockoffs” for the Vertuo?

Personally, I prefer the Original Line - primarily because Nespresso prevents people from making Vertuo pods, where they didn't for the original line. So in addition to getting Nespresso brand capsules on sale, there are also many other brands (and many with reputable hashgachas as well) that can be used.

Curious how often people clean their nesspresso machines? I usually use a cleaning capsule once a month or so. and descale a couple of times a year.

If the only thing holding you back is not having the option to buy knockoffs. Make your own reusable capsules.
 It's time consuming, but coffee is delicious. Wouldn't know the difference.

I use a burr coffee grinder and so i get high quality fresh ground. I don't find it "time consuming" (Unless you call 30 seconds "time-consuming").

Looking at Amazon, i see some companies make a silicone cover which makes it even easier.

They will all work. But the small coffee grounds may cause the laser sensor to stop working because of the dirt. You may be frequently cleaning the laser free of all the coffee that gets in the way of the laser to read the pods.

Either use a rubber to just snap on top of the refill pod. Or manually reuse the old pods with a foil top.

I've used about 50-100 Foil adhesive pods before I realized it's not for me. Very time consuming, made a mess and had to claim my warranty to get a new machine as the coffee grinds ruined my old machine.

I personally stock up when In Canada. Either wait for a promo. Or just buy outright. The pods are the same price. But with the conversion rate I'm ahead 20-25% usually.

Or buy in Europe, Australia.. also good pricing. But if you don't plan on visiting those countries any time soon. Just wait for a sale here in the US and buy some pods.

Been using this one for many years. never any issues. I use a burr grinder so i get fresh beans every time. Quick, efficient and delicious. I don't bother with the foil, just the filter and plastic cover. I Use Starbucks dark roast.
