Depending on where you are, the F to Jay St to the A may be slightly more convenient.
Also note that once you're at the howard beach/JFK stop on the A train, you need to take the Airtrain, which IIRC is 5 bucks.

How about 2nd to cheapest way? I don't think I'll be able to carry luggage on a train. I was thinking more in terms of a cheap taxi/shuttle...

call 718-get a car, I always used them when I was learning there - near JFK. It is a good frum car service from my experience. It may be cheaper to call an "American" car service where you can also practice your russian with the driver.
