"Partition: Read error" would indicate an actual issue with the card.
While not sure what would be the next best step, I'm curious if it was really only a Format and not something more that was going on with the card (maybe that was the reason they formatted it). Also, what's the current status of the card in Windows Explorer and in Disk Management.
The story I was told is little boy looking at pictures on big sister's camera, poking through the menu, finding something called Format and wondering what it does.
But then I'm pretty sure the card was inside a laptop's card reader for a few weeks while they tried to figure it out, so I wonder if that contributed to the issue.
I'm on a different computer now, I just put the card in and it actually opens! But there's basically nothing inside, just a few empty folders.
I don't have DiskDrill on this computer but I'll try photorec or testdisk.
