What happens if I close my Prestige card but leave my Premier card open - do I lose the points earned from the Prestige card?

FYI, OP is now 3 years older and probably grew up the CC game and DDF hype.

Why is the op's question odd ?

because if hes asking for facts... DDMS has all that info printed beautifully. If hes asking which is better that is a matter of where you spend and what you can afford ( annual fee ). It is a personal Q. Plus you can have all of them! So I still don't know what he wants!!!( three is enough I hope...)

So let me clarify, The guy asked his question 3 years ago, when he prob. wasn't as exp. in the cc game. What does that have to do with his question being odd ?!
ETA: I'm just messing with you, so don't feel the need to respond...

With the new option to use citi points as 1.6 cents or 1.3 ( depending on if u have prestige) on AA, including the ability to earn miles from the flight , and FROM THE CC charge makes it almost impossible for me to figure out if i should use miles or citi thank you points . Keep in mind this could beat BA miles in some cases!!! Can someone make an algorithm or something. TIA

Instead of chiming in to the nonsense discussion above, I will try to answer the post that bumped this thread.
What happens if I close my Prestige card but leave my Premier card open - do I lose the points earned from the Prestige card?
Assuming your ThankYou points accounts are combined, you will lose the points you earned with Prestige 90 days after you close it. Soon after you close the account, you should see a notice on the ThankYou web site about the pending points expiration. Once that notice appears, all points you subsequently redeem are first pulled from the points that are going to expire before dipping into the points from cards that are still open. This is my understanding from personal experience. Call 800-THANKYO and press the option for ThankYou customer service (not Citi Cards customer service) and they should be able to clarify if this is still how it works.

If your ThankYou points accounts are not combined, I don't know if you lose them immediately or not; you can call and ask.

And of course if you make purchases and close your account before they send the statement showing you earned points for those purchases, you probably will not get those points.

You can transfer points to someone else, ie, wife/relative before closing.

That's not gonna help.
Transferred points expire after 90 days (at least according to the T&C).

BUMP

I am so surprised that other ppl dont find this changing the mileage game

Points are worth $0.0125 towards airfare with TY Premier. I think with the new rules, points have that value for car rental and hotel too. When are points worth 1.3 cents?

without the prestige they are worth 1.33 towards AA. But nobody addressed trhe fact that you earn CC points for the charge and for the flight! How do i know calculate how much the flight actually costs?
