So lets pretend to be aviation experts for a bit. Without landing gear, isn't it much safer to land in water than landing with the metal stomach direct on the concrete, creating blazing sparks which leads to an explosion?

It looked like it was doing ok until it smashed into concrete barriers at the end of the runway

Perhaps normally a plane can slow down before running out of runway bc of the reverse thrust and this time it couldn't as both the engines were taken out?

There are questions by pilots commenting online, if you're able to do RT without landing gear, and if yes it's definitely not as straightforward. The flaps were also not lowered (at least not at the time the video we have was taken), which would have helped slow it down.
Many questions unanswered, it sounds crazy, but some are raising the possibility that they simply forgot to lower the landing gear when they came in to land after the go around. Another possibility is that they tried flying up again and ran out of runway.

To my untrained eye, it seems like the flaps were not down AND the slats were not up, and I assume the reverse thrusters were not working either. All of this points to a failure of both the engines and the auxiliary engine, which would make it impossible to move any of those. The landing gear, however, can be lowered without any power IINM.

Regarding braking power, IINM only a minimal amount of stopping power comes from the wheels. Almost all of it comes from the flaps, slats, and reverse thrusters.

To reference another incident, the Gimli Glider incident in Canada, the pilots were able to slow down by sliding their plane alongside a median, which created enough friction to stop the plane. On that flight, however, the gas tanks were dry, which minimized the chance of a conflagration.

Pilots of Korean airlines have been faulted in many crashes in the past. Wouldn't be shocked to hear about pilot error here.

What are the chances that both main engines and the auxiliary engine were all down, plus all 3 landing gear were somehow stuck and couldn't be manually released?
It seems something in addition to aircraft malfunction was going on. Were they too low and just didn't have time for any emergency procedures?

I'm sure there's a better thread for this, but another day, another plane crash:
