Brave? Cult?

She had a messed up family, and that's terribly sad. That gave her a warped perspective on people in general, and her community in particular. I hope she finds happiness and peace, but her story is not about honesty - it's about lashing out, and expressing her own pain, and trying to get others to share her own warped view.

Is that her fault? No. But should we applaud her for it? I don't think so. Unhealthy behavior may not be someone's fault, that doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Just caught on to the facebook groups discussing this. Some want to organise, a get together style outside the book store, the same time, and be able to explain and reveal the truth, to the ones who might believe the contents of the book that aparantly has terrible wicked lies. There are alot of people in for it already, Great idea.

I just can't see that group working out the way you think it will (or how it is planned).  Plenty of room  for Chilul Hashem or worse...

At least Google helped with this one.

Best to just let it run its course.

Why is it a chilul hashem? Is it not the real chilul hashem if we don't go out and defend ourself from false stories? (that dosen't say I give it any chanses to work out, we need Meir Kahana for that)

Nobody said it "IS" Chillul Hashem, I was simply suggesting that such a "gathering" would provide lots of opportunity FOR Chillul Hashem.  And by virtue of your statement that it behooves us to "go out" and defend ourselves from false stories -- you are making my point quite clearly.  By shouting and screaming in the street you will only bring a bad name to those you try and defend, and lend further credence to those whose statements you find objectionable.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was speaking from the perspective of the general public. She already has them eating from the palm of her hand by virtue of the fact that in their minds she was brave and broke away from a cult. (Whether there is truth to that or not is irrelevant.) My point was that it's unfortunate that she felt the need to use half-truths to "win over" the public.

Apparently she was on 'The View' today on ABC. Anybody happen to catch that?  Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow for clips.

Yes at certain times, you must ask a rabbi each time.

The short answer is yes.
But it's not so simple. And generally less used in the Hasidic world.

Yes but its complicated. In the hassidic community a lot of people frown upon it. And there are those who say it is not allowed
