She mentions being sexually assaulted by her cousin when she was 12 yrs old.

But then again, communities like the one she grew up in, don't really believe in that either so she might not had a choice.

bs..........

I'm sure she does 'want to sell her book' but it's not so crazy to believe that for ex. she wasn't allowed out to eat or what not. That isn't something done normally by many Chassidim. And yes there is a "general" but she is also talking a lot about what SHE went through in HER own house. It isn't that hard to believe.

I agree that's what it sounds like, but I don't recall the article stating any abuse, save the old man who wanted to give her a candy, which is most definitely not pedophily.

She mentions being sexually assaulted by her cousin when she was 12 yrs old.

Definitely.  Especially because this didn't just happen and all of a sudden its on every news site.  The unfortunate thing is that this book is going to be a best seller.

I think this is exactly the reaction these people are looking for and personally I think it's not right to judge coming from the outside

I am friends with satmar chasidim and all though they are brought up in a way you and I would call sheltered they actually live a very beautiful life. Much closer to how Jews lived for the past thousands of years, it is very pure and innocent. I wouldn't live like that nor want to raise my family like that, but it works for some people and I definitely see the beauty in it.

I found satmar, who has lots of beautiful chessed organizations etc, relatively higher risk for 'weird' stories, as well people going off.

The major chilul Hashem fighting for the throne, just worsened it.

I see way too many people called joili that aren't religious anymore. (I am taking into consideration that they are an enormous chassidus, and so more go off)

I tell (nice) satmar chassidim that they should look for another chasidus, as the way it looks now is not healthy.

So far non have disagreed.

It may be beautiful but it doesn't seem practical in today's society. Too many teens and young adults feel like they're going to explode when they're finally exposed to "the outside world". This mehalech may have worked well in Europe, but with all the "gashmies" of America I believe that kids need to have a kosher flavor of it so they don't run off to it the second they have the chance. This is not just my opinion but many others as well. It may still be working for many people but unfortunately that number of is declining.

& in a bunch of other news outlets.
Half the story I was crying; half laughing at the hilarious misrepresentation.
I'm not sure a shelter for abused chassidish women is such a bad idea (obviously in a more appropiate leadership)

I read the article and there are so many off the wall traditions (for lack of a better word) if true.

Its extremely dramatized to say the least. The journalist (or woman?) is completely twisting the general ideas like nida. "She never knew she had a ....." paleeeez  ::)

I was literally laughing out loud. Also the ruptured colon part.
I read the article and there are so many off the wall traditions (for lack of a better word) if true.
Its about belief, not tradtion. If it was commanded by G-D, we must comply even if it doesn't make sense. Most often it can be explained.
The problem here is that, the way she portrayes it, they (the family, community or whoever this comes from) have tragically distorted these commandments & values, & the result is devastating.
