Trump on Truth a moment ago...
The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn. Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!
Recognizing nearby aircraft may appear simple, but nighttime conditions make it far more challenging. With depth perception significantly diminished, it’s easy to misjudge whether a light in the sky belongs to an aircraft a mile away or one much farther out. Night vision goggles amplify brightness, intensifying all sources of light and making it even harder to differentiate between them. Adding to the confusion, the glow from stars and tower beacons can obscure an aircraft’s position. In this case, it seems they mistakenly reported visual contact with the wrong aircraft.
